The extreme dot-to-dot category for adults has grown a lot in the last few years, from one or two well-known series to a whole shelf of options. Here’s a plain look at what’s out there, and where our own Midnight Reveal line is headed.
What’s already established
A few names come up often in this category. Thomas Pavitte’s “1000 Dot-to-Dot” series is probably the best-known — every puzzle in it runs exactly 1,000 dots, and Pavitte himself set an unofficial record for the most complex dot-to-dot drawing back in 2011. MindWare also publishes a long-running “Extreme Dot to Dot” line with a wide range of scenes and subjects. Beyond those, there’s a steady stream of independently published books covering animals, landscapes, and holiday themes at various dot counts.
What most of them have in common
Realistic photo-style covers, standard black-ink printing, and dot counts that range anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand per page. It’s a format that works, which is part of why it’s stayed popular.
