For most adult dot-to-dot printables, a regular pencil or pen is fine — the paper is light, so any dark mark shows up. The one exception is our darker “Midnight reveal” pages, where a light-colored pen (gold, silver, or white) works far better than pencil, which won’t show up against black at all.
Why the darker pages are different
Midnight reveal pages are built to look like a picture emerging from the night sky — dark background, glowing reveal. That only works if your pen shows up against dark paper. A silver or white gel pen does the job well, and a gold one matches the site’s own look if you want your finished page to feel like the cover art.
What to keep on hand
- A regular pen or pencil for standard, light-background printables
- A gel pen in white, silver, or gold for anything dark-background
- Nothing fancier than that — no special tools, no measuring
