Print in draft or grayscale mode, and check the print preview before you send the page to the printer. Most wasted ink on a dot-to-dot printable comes from printing full-color by default when the page is really just black lines on white — a setting most printers don’t switch on their own.
The settings that actually matter
- Grayscale or “black ink only” — dot-to-dot pages don’t need color, so this alone cuts ink use significantly
- Draft or economy mode — a lighter print is still perfectly usable for connecting dots; you’re not printing a photograph
- Print preview first — confirms the page fills correctly before you commit paper and ink to it
Skip the browser’s default print styling
If a page prints with a header, footer, or URL bar included, that’s the browser adding it, not the PDF. Most browsers let you turn off “headers and footers” in the print dialog — one less strip of ink down the side of the page.
One page at a time
Our free printables are single pages, not multi-page packs, so there’s no risk of printing extra sheets you don’t need. If you’re working through several, printing them one at a time (rather than a full batch) makes it easier to catch a bad print before it uses more ink than it needed to.
